Answers

  1. My choice of domain name isn't available! What do I do?
It's a very common problem, and there's very little you can do about it other than be creative.
Take 'em to court. You do have more rights to use your company name as a domain name than does someone who does not trade under that name. You could possibly go to court and wrest the name legally away from the usurper, but that's a little extreme, will probably end up in the local paper, and give your company an extremely bad name.
Try other domain suffixes. A domain suffix is the part that goes after the name, like the .com of receptivedesign.com. The most popular suffixes are .com, .org (for organisations) and .co.uk (uk companies), but there are alternatives. If you are certain you want a particular name then we can search through all the available domain suffixes to find if your name is available on one of them.
Play with words. Try mixing up the words of your name of choice, or adding descriptive words to it. www.joebloggs.co.uk not available? Try www.jbloggs.co.uk, www.joe-bloggs.co.uk, www.joebloggsagency.co.uk, www.joebloggsandson.co.uk. You get the idea.
Buy it from the owner. Unless you have a large sum of money to spend on getting your ideal domain name we wouldn't recommend this option.
  2. Will I be the owner of my domain name?
All domain name registrations by Receptive Design are registered with various domain registrars (whoever we can currently get the best deal with) and are always registered with your name as the owner provided you supply us with your address details when you request the domain name. We can modify the owner details at any time if you fail to provide us with these details initially, or if you move. It is your responsiblity to ensure we have your up to date details.
Receptive Design will be registered as the admin, technical and billing contact so that we can deal with all the administration of the domain.
Renewals. When your registration period is due for renewal we will contact you to find out if you wish to renew and for what period. As long as you pay the renewal fee 45 days prior to the expiration date, we will renew the domain name for you. If you do not wish to renew the domain name just let us know, or don't pay the renewal invoice and we will let the domain name expire and be released back into the available domain list.
  3. Will you charge me if I want my domain transferring to another hosting company?
No. There are no charges to transfer domain hosting to another company. You can transfer your domain to another hosting company at any time as long as 60 days have passed since the registration of the domain. If you would like the domain hosting with another company or on your own domain servers immediately upon registration you will need to inform us when you register the domain and supply at least two nameserver addresses. If you do not know the nameserver address your hosting company will be able to give you the information.
